Digital Insights is one of the flagship publications of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Cambodia. The vision of the project is to support research on the challenges and chances of digital transformation in order to create an inclusive and bright future for all. Since 2018, the series has addressed digital transformation in various aspects of lives, ranging from economic transformation, e-governance, sustainability and innovation to the impacts of digitalization on work and the development of cities.
In this volume – Future of Education – Digital Insights aims to spark a discussion on how digital transformation can support education and talent development in order to narrow the digital skills gap and to prepare students, teachers and practitioners for the future of work in Cambodia’s digital economy and society. Since education and skills for work and life are closely connected, this issue will highlight several aspects of education, ranging from the academic/general track to the professional/vocational track and into lifelong learning.
This year’s topic was chosen due to the importance of digital talent for Cambodia’s development, which is at the core of the recently adopted Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035 and the Digital Government Policy 2022-2035. Digital talent is one of the key foundations and driving forces of the digital transformation for stakeholders in government, business and society. However, the “Demand for and Supply of Digital Skill in Cambodia” report in 2019 states that there is a mismatch between the future demand of digital skills and the supply from relevant education systems. One of the major obstacles to this mismatch is due to slow digital adoption and innovation in these sectors.
The latest Digital Insights edition aims to tackle these challenges, provide a platform for sharing diverse perspectives, catalyze collaborations, exchange best practices and, most importantly, shed light on the potential solutions that will shape the future of education.
Among the themes and questions of the next digital insights will be:
General trends: What is the future of education? What are the trends of digital transformation and innovation of higher education in Cambodia? How will the future of education best support individuals, communities and societies for a meaningful future of work and economic well-being? What role can TVET and lifelong learning play?
Adaption of organizations: How can universities and other learning centers adapt to changes and transform to supply talents for the future of work? How will/should digital technology change Cambodia’s universities and higher education, the TVET sector and other forms of education?
Pedagogics, Teaching/Learning Methodologies and Assessment: What are future technology-based and innovative pedagogies, teaching/learning methodologies and assessment for education in developing, upskilling, and reskilling talent for the future of Cambodia? What role can Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) play?
Digital and Physical Infrastructure: What is the digital and physical infrastructure needed to enable the future of education and the promotion of inclusive, student-centered, and future-focus education?
Policies and Regulations: What kind of policies do we need to create a conducive and inclusive future of education?
