Phnom Penh, Cambodia – In a significant step towards a more inclusive urban environment, the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), in collaboration with ArrowDot and with the support of The Asia Foundation (TAF), is proud to announce the successful pilot of a smart accessibility system on two buses within the Phnom Penh City Bus network.

This pilot project enhances accessibility for people with disabilities, featuring voice announcements and visual dashboards to inform passengers of current and upcoming stops – supporting both visually and hearing-impaired individuals. These 2 buses also got spaces modified to accommodate wheelchairs and Khmer Braille labels at key touchpoints for better navigation.

This is more than a tech solution, it’s digital inclusion in action.

Key features include:

  • Real-time Voice Announcements: Informing passengers of current and upcoming stops, benefiting visually impaired individuals.
  • Dynamic Visual Dashboards: Displaying route information and upcoming stops, providing crucial support for hearing-impaired passengers.
  • Wheelchair Accessibility: Dedicated and modified spaces within the two pilot buses to comfortably accommodate wheelchair users.
  • Khmer Braille Navigation: Tactile Braille labels at key touchpoints throughout the buses to facilitate independent navigation for visually impaired passengers.

As Cambodia’s leading digital research center, CADT is at the forefront of applying artificial intelligence and data science to solve real-world challenges, with a strong emphasis on Khmer language technologies. Our impactful projects range from a Khmer Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system and a Braille translation machine to AI for antimicrobial resistance detection and a Khmer-speaking receptionist robot. We are dedicated to bringing cutting-edge research to life for the betterment of Cambodia.

We are actively seeking opportunities for collaboration and partnership to expand this vital initiative and develop further digital solutions that promote an inclusive and smart city.

Let’s build a more accessible future together. Please feel free to contact us to explore how we can collaborate.
